Trying to get in the habit of stretching at least 20 minutes a day. I had a track workout after my 8 a.m. class and drove back to my apartment and did this little gem of a video. 18 minutes long which is perfect, plus I stretched a little before the run. If any of you have any good beginner yoga videos I would appreciate you sending me the link or sending me good channels on Youtube that do them. Will probably do another one before bed tonight. :)

Man, I love food. It is amazing and often I eat too much of it.

Recently I have started using MyFitnessPal. Not only because I want to count calories, but because I want to know what I’m putting in my body.

VEGGIES ARE LIKE NO CALORIES!! And they have tons and tons of vitamins, minerals, and finer. EAT MORE OF THEMM!!!

Sorry all! Fell off the earth for a second.

I have been in a whirlwind of busyness this last month. I apologize for not writing more often! Fitness friday will be fitness thursday right now, because I know for sure I will probably not have time tomorrow!

This weekend is exciting! It is my last race of the year (potentially) and I get to share it with my sister, brother-in-law, and significant other!! Making this a more ‘family’ event is so exciting. All of us encouraging one another on and working as a group to finish; what more can one ask for?

So in light of family or even couple activities for health; here are my health and wellness tips of the week!

  • Netflix? No, lets take a walk. I know for me and my boyfriend it is so easy to just curl up on the couch and just watch series after series on netflix. But why not make this time to get to know each other and nature? Go for a walk, leave your phones at home, and just explore different areas in your neighbourhood. It is fun, healthy, and overall an experience you won’t forget.
  • Bike rides… I like to ride my bicycle… Not only is this a great Queen song but it has a great thought. Go on a bicycle ride! Find paths and trails to go up and down to make it more of a challenge and a workout. This you can do as a family or even just as a couple. Need a couple groceries, bring a big backpack and go to the store together via bicycle. It’s fun and a good workout.
  • Enter races together! People love a challenge and a workout partner. So if you both sign up for a race you can prepare… TOGETHER!!!! It will encourage both of you to actually get your butt off the couch and to do well, or better yet beat the other person. A little healthy competition didn’t kill anyone ;)
  • Hiking, what is more of a bonding experience then climbing a mountain?! Especially here in AB we have amazing scenery and it needs to be explored. By just hiking altogether you get a workout, conversation, and in the end a feeling of accomplishment. Ahhh!

Let’s be strong and determined. It will help in the long run and keep us inspired with each other and in the relationships.

Fitness not Friday!!! - July 12

I missed yesterday! How dare I…

Well I am making up for it today! Hello, and I hope you’re week has been amazing! It is so freaking warm here in AB! Got to love summer though. And I love summer so much, why not spend more time loving this gorgeous weather and getting fit!!! Here are my health and wellness tips of the week:

I like to ride my bicycle! - I have recently decided that I am no longer going to be driving my car this summer. I will be saving tons of money by parking it and biking to work, school, and recreational places too! How awesome is that? TOO AWESOME! Also it will be burning tons of calories, working out my legs, AND getting me a nice tank top and helmet tan… yummmm! Look into it. Is it easy to bike for you? Will you save money on gas and insurance, most definitely! 

Lets turn a workout to a sweaty mess. - Active sets have always been my extra way of kicking my ass a little harder at the gym. I love lifting weights and do enjoy my rest times, BUT I don’t always get the results I want. So I put in some active sets. Easy things, mountain climbers, skipping, push ups, and then doing either a certain amount or just for the allotted time. This is perfect for burning those extra calories, just make sure if you’re working your chest you don’t decide to do push ups. It works the same muscle group and you don’t want to exhaust them. So do opposite things, like legs and sit ups. BINGO!

Life’s too short, sprint it! - I always get “I just don’t like cardio” this attitude needs to go. To be blunt and over all a dick. You need cardio. It is very important. So why not do something that is quick and very effective, sprints. These are good to do on a curve machine or even just outside. Sprint as hard as you can for 30 seconds then take a 4 minute break, this will give you good recovery time for your next sprint. Do 4 sets of this and the next week, do 5, following week do 6, etc. It will make you faster and will burn a whole bunch of calories!

Well thats all my tips for this week.
